Regina Wilson is a firefighter for the Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY) and a 9/11 first respondent. She currently works in Engine Company 219, which shares quarters with Ladder Company 105. She has been a member of the department for 18 years and is 1 of only 57 women in a workforce of over 10,700 firefighters. Ms. Wilson is the first female President of the Vulcan Society, an organization of African American Firefighters, EMT’s, Fire Inspectors, Fire Marshals and civilian employees that allows any FDNY employee the opportunity to join regardless of race or ethnic background.
Since the start of her career, Regina has assisted in every FDNY Recruitment drive to help hire applicants for the position of Firefighter and EMT. She was also a proud to serve in the rescue and recovery efforts of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans and also Hurricane Sandy in New York. She recently helped pass New York state legislation to update all references to police and firefighters to be gender neutral and to encourage more women to follow in her footsteps.
